PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens including a wide angle of view, and making an imaging apparatus compact while providing a variable power ratio of about 7, and the imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes in order from an object side: a first lens group Gr1 including a prism which bends an optical path by about 90 degrees and having negative power; a second lens group Gr2 having positive power; a third lens group Gr3 having negative power; a fourth lens group Gr4 having positive power and a fifth lens group Gr5. When varying power from a wide angle end (W) to a telephoto end (T), the first lens group Gr1 and the fourth lens group Gr4 are immovable in an optical axis direction relative to an image surface, and at least the second lens group Gr2, the third lens group Gr3 and the fifth lens group Gr5 move along an optical axis AX so that space between the first lens group Gr1 and the second lens group Gr2 and space between the third lens group Gr3 and the fourth lens group Gr4 may be decreased, and space between the fourth lens group Gr4 and the fifth lens group Gr5 may be changed. The zoom lens satisfies a conditional expression: 1.0<¾f1¾/fw<6.0 (f1: focal length of the first lens group, and fw: focal length of an entire system at the wide angle end).
