PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain nitrogen-containing metal powder having a large specific surface area and uniformly containing a reasonable amount of nitrogen in the metal with good productivity and to provide a solid electrolytic capacitor having high capacitance with few leakage current and excellent long-term reliability. SOLUTION: In the nitrogen-containing metal powder, the ratio W/S of the amount of contained nitrogen W[ppm] to the specific surface area S[m<SP>2</SP>/g] measured by the BET method is 500-3,000. The metal powder can be manufactured by a method of reducing a metallic salt containing the metal by allowing the metallic salt to react with a reducing agent in molten diluent salt 14 to produce the metal, wherein nitrogen-containing gas is introduced into a space in contact with the reactant melt containing the metallic salt, the reducing agent, and the diluent salt 14 to produce the metal and also the nitrogen is impregnated in the metal.
