[Also in Division F2] In a constant velocity, double Hooke's joint, wherein yokes 14, 23, respectively bolted at 15, 24 to shafts 16, 25, are connected by crosses 17, 26 to an intermediate yoke member 12, and centring means 13 maintaining equal angularity between the respective shafts 16, 25 and the member 12 for constant velocity operation comprises a ball 37 formed on the yoke 14 and a wear-compensating socket 42 slidably mounted in a cylindrical recess 41 in the yoke 23 and urged to engage the ball by a spring 43, to minimize wear between the socket and its recess the ball is so contoured with respect to the socket that substantially no axial movement of the socket in its recess occurs for any position of joint angularity. The bore of the socket is conical with an apex angle equal to the maximum joint angularity. The Specification includes a procedure for finding the required ball contour for a given socket contour. A flexible rubber boot 45 is provided for lubricant retention. Specification 894,806 is referred to.
