The present invention comprises the use, as an apparatus specifically modified to cut the necks of glass bottles for beverages, of an existing device not previously designed for that purpose. The invention includes a deep-well configuration for vertical use for positioning the bottle neck up or neck down, and soft rubber rollers for shock absorption and securing the bottle in the correct cutting position. A "floating-head"-design cutting tool, which is spring-loaded and individually designed, is placed horizontally on the bottle neck. Next, the bottle is fixed, by means of a rotary screw assembly, in the specially modified bench press; the soft rubber rollers of the cutting tool are placed against the neck of the bottle on one side and the "floating head" is placed on the opposite side of the bottle. The bottle is rotated and the floating cutting head is tightened, by means of the rotary screw assembly, against the bottle neck and mere application of a light pressure on the bottle neck by the floating cutting head is required in order to score, cut and cause separation of the bottle neck from the body of the bottle, whilst the bottle is rotated by means of the modified bench press or manually. The above-mentioned method is of use to all beverage producers and to the fiscal and health authorities in all countries worldwide. Separation of the bottle neck from the bottle means that the glass bottle for beverages cannot be refilled by third parties. The glass-bottle-neck-cuttifloating-heading system, commercially known as "Bottlenecker" (registered trade mark), increases the beverage-industry tax income collected by the government's fiscal authorities throughout the world, since it precludes the refilling of bottles used for beverages, especially for alcoholic beverages, and the corresponding tax evasion on the part of third parties. More importantly, the general public benefits because altered and adulterated alcoholic beverages are removed from the market.
