972,716. Magnetic printing apparatus. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Dec. 14, 1961 [Dec. 30, 1960], No. 44809/61. Heading B6C. [Also in Division H4] In a magnetic printing assembly, the magnetic circuit of the recording styli 11 is completed by a base member 12 shaped as shown or comprising a flat sheet (Fig. 6, not shown) and arranged so that the recording ends 26 of the styli when inserted in apertures 16 are in substantially flush relationship with the under surface of the member, which is located adjacent a magnetizable surface 9, and are peripherally separated therefrom by a non-magnetic sleeve 29. In the embodiment shown there are seven styli each comprising a core 25 tapering to a recording end 26 upon which is mounted the non-magnetic sleeve 29. The sleeve may be copper plating or glass the magnetizing winding is arranged around both the core and taper. The part of. the magnetizable member 12 in which the recording ends fit is of reduced thickness. As shown the other end of each stylus may fit in further aperture 24 provided in the member 12 or may be welded to said member (Fig. 6, not shown). Following the assembly of styli 11 to base member 12 the whole assembly is mounted in a recess 33 in a non-magnetic support block 32 and secured therein by filling the recess with a hardenable plastic. The entire assembly is mounted on a support frame 39 where it is pivotally adjustable above a hinge extension 40 by manipulation of adjusting screw 41. |
