A purine substance can be produced by culturing a Bacillus bacterium which is capable of producing the purine substance and has a reduced enzymatic activity of fructose-bisphosphatase in a culture medium to produce and accumulate the purine substance in the culture medium or a cell of the bacterium, and collecting the purine substance from the culture medium or the cell.
