A method for preparing a light shielding member, a light shielding member prepared by the method, and a light absorbing film using the light shielding member are provided to improve the light shielding property to the light of various wavelength and adhesion. A method for preparing a light shielding member comprises the steps of contacting a compound having a radical polymerizable unsaturated part and a metal ion or metal salt adsorbing part to a substrate capable of generating radicals by exposure, and exposing it to generate a polymer directly bonded to the substrate, thereby forming a polymer layer; imparting a metal ion or a metal salt to the polymer layer and reducing the metal ion or the metal ion of the metal salt to precipitate a metal particle having a volume average diameter of 5-500 nm.
