OFDM SYMBOL DESIGN FOR DIFFERENT CHANNEL CONDITIONS AND FOR BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY WITH 1XEV-DO AND NXEV-DO

An OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) symbol design for different channel conditions and for backward compatibility with 1xEV-DO and NxEV-DO is provided to produce the transmission slot included with one or more OFDMs to go to the variable periods. A transmission slot having a plurality of data areas and a plurality of control areas is received(100). Each of data areas comprises the digital spread spectrum data. A plurality of data areas includes CPE and is replaced by one or more OFDM symbols having the variable periods(105). The number of OFDM symbol per data area in the process of replacing the data areas with the OFDM symbols is determined.
