An automatic gain controller and an automatic gain control method are provided to connect the memory device to the input signal by operating the memory device according to the action mode or the idle mode of the input signal. The amplifier(10) receives the radio frequency signal having the action mode and the idle mode. The amplifier amplifies the radio frequency signal. The gain value applied to the radio frequency signal is controlled by the gain control signal generating unit(40). A level detector(20) detects the output level of amplifier. The output level detected from the level detector is delivered to a comparator(30). The comparator compares the detected output level with the set reference voltage level. The comparator delivers the signal to the gain control signal generating unit arranging the output level. The gain control signal generating unit delivers the signal for moving the bias level about the input signal according to the output of comparator. The gain control signal generating unit controls the bias level about the input signal. A memory device(50) stores the bias level of the gain control signal generating unit. The memory device delivers the bias level stored in the memory to the amplifier.
