A method and an apparatus for monitoring the infringement of a copyright are provided to enable a user to monitor the illegal distribution of a work when the work is distributed through a communication network such as the internet or offline. An internet sever and a website are established for the distribution and storage of a work. A sever manager makes an agreement with a receiver concerned with a copyright of the work. A receiver connects to a sever through a terminal such as a set-top box or a computer according to the agreement, and request the selective download of the work. Copyright use allowance information(11) is crated when downloading the work, and the information is modulated into the information that cannot be recognized based on just feeling. The modulated information is synthesized to the work(12) or a modulated copyright signal(13) or is transmitted with the work through a communication network such as a digital broadcasting or the internet without synthesis(14). The modulated information is output in an audible wave(18) through a speaker attached to a terminal(16). A receiving device(20) of the copyright use allowance information receives an outputted copyright use allowance information signal, demodulates the information in a visible or audible signal, and reads the demodulated signal. |
