A method of labeling for node of XML document and an apparatus thereof are provided to supply a speedy query process of XPath/XQuery having order without re-labeling previous nodes when a sensitive node is inserted into an XML tree. A label configuration unit configures a label of a child node, which inherits a parent node, in binary string in an XML document(310). The label configuration unit labels root nodes into null strings. A same location judgment unit judges whether the location of newly inserted node is identical to the location of the nodes deleted in an XML document(320). If not, a label setting unit sets up the labels of new nodes at the location, into which the new node are inserted, by using the labels of neighbor sibling nodes(330). If so, the label setting unit sets up the labels of deleted nodes as the labels of new nodes(340).
