A liquid crystal display and driving method thereof is provided to prevent gate voltage drop by increasing a gate voltage gradually, so improving the display quality. A liquid crystal display and driving method thereof includes a LCD panel, a printed circuit board, a gate driving unit(8) and data driver(9). The gate driving unit comprises a gate integrated circuit operating the gate line(6), and the data driver comprises a data integrated circuit operating the data line(7). The gate driving unit and data driver are connected to the timing controller(11). A backlight unit is formed in the LCD panel backplane and the LCD panel includes the thin film transistor substrate(4) and color filter base material(5). The timing controller generates the gate control signal and data control signal.
