A pipe joint having a tubular joint body (2) where a male pipe joint (50) is inserted and engagement claws (16, 17) having a female screw section that is, at the time when the male pipe joint is inserted into the joint body by a predetermined amount, engaged with a male screw section (52) of the male pipe joint to hold the male pipe joint in connected position. A trigger member (13) is provided in the joint body, and when the male pipe joint is inserted into the joint body, the trigger member (13) is pressed in by the male pipe joint via front end elastic means (14, 20). When the male pipe joint is inserted into the joint body by the predetermined amount, the trigger member activate a pressing member (15) to hold the engagement claws, preventing disengagement of the female screw section from the male screw section. When the thread of the female screw section does not match the thread of the male screw section, rendering them impossible to engage with each other, the male pipe joint is further tightened while elastically deforming the front end elastic means. The male pipe joint is tightened until the screw threads are matched each other, and thus the male pipe joint is reliably connected.
