The lamp has a non-pixelated organic light emitting diode (OLED) formed on a substrate (20). The diode has electrically coupled light emitting structures (12) formed over a cathode to expose a portion of the cathode near the substrate. Anode formed over the structures extends to an edge of the substrate. An encapsulating cover (18) located over the OLED leaves the exposed portions to make an electrical contact to the lamp. An independent claim is also included for a method of making an organic light emitting diode lamp.
