The magnet (1) has a circuit arrangement for generating an actual lifting signal, and an exciter circuit (2) charging the magnet and/or coils of the magnet with an exciting current. A two-point regulator (7) controls and/or regulates the current based on a target lifting signal and the actual signal. An exciting current setpoint device (8) is formed as a controller, which processes a switching frequency of the regulator and/or an actuated switch (4) e.g. FET, as the actual signal. The controller compares the frequency with the target signal and regulates a target value signal for the current.
