The method involves opening a fuel injection valve (1) arranged between a fuel injection conduit (4) and a cylinder of a direct injection internal combustion engine cylinder (10) for a long time. A fuel i.e. air, is supplied to the cylinder from the conduit, when the conduit is filled with the fuel. Low pressure partially exists in the conduit during an airing operation. The valve is permanently opened for a predetermined time, when an electric fuel pump (12) rotates and a starter is not operated. The low pressure exists in an event of consecutive reset of the starter. An independent claim is also included for an engine controller for controlling opening and closure of an injection valve of a direct injection internal combustion engine.
