979,851. Machine tool details. J. HEIDENHAIN, [trading as WENCZLER & HEIDENHAIN]. Dec. 14, 1961 [Dec. 14, 1960], No. 44892/61. Heading B3B. [Also in Division G1] The errors in the guide 2 of a machine tool or measuring machine are compensated for by interposing between the slide 1 and the guide 2 a supporting member 4 whose position depends on a further surface, e.g. of a compensating guide 3. The slide 1 contacts the member 4 at a fulcrum point A. The displacement of point A due to an irregularity in the guide is compensated by the guide 3 which produces an opposite displacement. If point A is midway between guides 2, 3, the surfaces of guides 2, 3 may be the surfaces of separation of a single block. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2, the guide 3 moves a lever 7 and hence an eccentric 8. A hydrostatic embodiment, Fig. 3, has a piston 10 moved into and out of a cylinder communicating with a cylinder 9 having a diaphragm 9‹ connected to a feeler 9<SP>2</SP> engaging the surface of guide 2<SP>2</SP>. In another embodiment, Fig. 13, the supporting member 344 is screw-threaded and is rotated, to alter the length of it within the slide 312 and thus compensate for errors in the guide, by a lever 346 engaging a cam 347 which is turned as slide 312 moves along guide 318. A guide having an adjustable surface 452 for use in the embodiments of Figs. 1-3 is shown in Fig. 14. |
