A backlight unit of a liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided to improve the efficiency the backlight unit by preventing distortion of the AC driving signal. A constant current is inputted from outside to the dimming control signal(Dim). An inverter control portion(14) produces the PWM(Pulse-Width Modulating) signal by compensating for the feedback current(F1). An inverter(16) produces the ADS(AC Driving Signal) in response to the pulse-width modulating signal. A backlight(12) generates light by the ADS.
