A machine (such as a header or nut and bolt former) having a cut-off die, a reciprocating tool carrier and a cut-off knife mounted to be reciprocated in synchronization with the toolcarrier, parallel to the face of the cut-off die to sever blanks from a length of stock, has means for ejecting the end portion of the stock from the die as a new length is being fed said means comprising first means adapted to co-operate with the new length for starting the ejecting cycle, positioning means responsive to said first means to locate the cut-off die for ejection of the end portion of stock, an ejecting bar controlled by the tool-holder and second means to return the cut-off die to its original position. Bar stock passes through an opening 13 in the machine to a cut-off die 12a, and is severed by a knife 15. The die 12a is slidably mounted in the machine frame and can reciprocate between the position shown in Fig. 3 and a lower position in which it is aligned with an ejection channel 56. Slidably mounted on the die-bed are a spring- loaded guide 44 and signal blade 47. New rod stock 14 passes through a hole 45 in the guide 44 and is raised by the spring 46 so that the leading end of the stock strikes the signal blade 47 and raises it so that a lever arm 49 operates a switch A. On the next stroke of the press a relay activates an air cylinder and moves the die 12a downwards to a position where an ejecting bar 54 pushes out the end portion of the old stock.</p> |
