The vehicle access prevention post comprises a hollow housing to which a post which is movably mounted, the post having a shaft 20 with retaining elements 22 mounted thereupon, the shaft being in communication with a handle portion 44 and movable relative to the body 26 of the post so as to move the retaining elements between retaining and non-retaining positions. The vehicle access prevention post has locking means which have a locked condition in which movement of the shaft is prevented and an unlocked position in which the shaft can be moved, the locking means including a key-operated lock 52 and a latch, the latch having an operative position and an inoperative position, the operative position of the latch corresponding to the locked condition. The locking means are preferably carried in the handle portion, which is preferably designed to rotate with the shaft. The latch is preferably resiliently biased to its operative position with the key-operated lock having a part to engage the latch to move it to its inoperative position. The handle part may carry a fixed peg which can engage a corresponding hole in the body of the post, the handle part being longitudinally movable relative to the shaft when the latch is in the inoperative position to allow removal of the peg from the hole. The latch preferably engages a groove in the shaft. The shaft preferably extends beyond the bottom 28 of the post with the retaining elements being located below the post and projecting radially beyond the post. |
