STEREOLOGICAL ANALYSIS METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR TWO-DIMENSIONAL IMAGE STACKS

The invention relates to a method and system that enables a stack of images (or a series of aligned two-dimensional images) captured in a three-dimensional space to be analysed by computer in a fully automatic manner (without the results having to be corrected by the operator). For such an analysis, involving the use of stereological techniques such as those based on the dissector, said method/system combines the design of binary stacks and uses algorithms belonging to the field of image analysis in order to produce at least one other stack of two-dimensional images, from which the particles that fulfil the theoretical requirements of the stereological technique employed are selected. The resulting image stack can be used very efficiently and without bias or human errors to obtain numerous different quantitative data of interest for different fields and different uses (diagnostic, research, industrial, etc.).
