The operating device (1) has key fields (3) visualizable by a touch-sensitive screen (2), where each key field exhibits keys (4-7). The operating device is designed such that the keys localized in direct proximity to a contact point (8) of the screen are enlargely displayed during contact of the screen in an area of the key fields. The operating device is designed such that the enlargely displayed keys selected from the operating device are identified when the contact is maintained after displaying the enlarged keys. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a machine tool, a production machine and/or a robot.
