A gearbox may comprise a layshaft and a mainshaft having a number of cogs containing an integral gerotor type oil pump which locks together or unlocks two separately revolving parts, e.g. a hub and main body, of the cog thereby facilitating a connection or disconnection of the cogs to or from the mainshaft. The main body of the cog has a ring gear set inside it, offset from a centre, which mates with teeth on the hub, thereby providing the gerotor pump. In use when a clutchless gear change is initiated, a selector hub of an opposing gear is pushed by a fork into mesh with dog teeth of the hub, thus locking the hub to the mainshaft. When this is done oil is pumped through drillings of the opposing gear. Continuing across the opposing gear, the fork now inserts its collar under a step of another gear body, cutting off drillings and locking body and hub together, drive is now transmitted through this gear. |
