The aim of the invention is to improve a method for monitoring an automated system in such a way as to facilitate the analysis of the behaviour of said system. To achieve this, data that describes the sequence of conditions in the system or part of said system is stored and a data output sequence reflecting the sequence of conditions in the system or part of said system is generated on the basis of at least one subset of the stored data. The invention also relates to an improved device for monitoring an automated system.
