A SEAL FOR A CONTAINER

A seal (1) for a container for commestibles, especially potable liquids, and in particular for use for sealing polyester containers such as bottles, which is suitable for passage through a PET recycling process, comprises a m etal foil layer (4), a foam layer (3) and a plastics film layer (2) as well as a heat sealable layer (5) below the foil. The foam is selected for its de nsity and thickness so is to confer upon the seal a high buoyancy. The adhes ion a between the foam and the foil is increased compared to currently avail able products, in order to prevent de-lamination between the foil and the fo am during the recycling process.
