An image display apparatus 10 comprises a substantially transparent body 12 having an image 14 printed on an image bearing face 18 and viewable through an image viewing face 16, the image 14 being overlaid by a backing layer 28 of substantially uniform colour, with the image and backing layer both being formed using ultraviolet (UV) curable inks. The opacity of the backing layer may be uniform over the entire surface of the image bearing face 18, or may vary over the image bearing face. A clear protective layer 30, e.g. of UV curable lacquer, may overlie the backing layer 28. One or more faces 16, 18, 20, 22 of the body 12 may be etched. The body 12 may be etched internally. The body may comprise a block or cube of plastics material, e.g. acrylic. A method of producing an image display is also disclosed, including the steps of printing an image 14 using UV curable ink onto an image bearing face 18 of a substantially transparent body 12, curing the image, overprinting the image with a backing layer 28 of UV curable ink having substantially uniform colour, and curing the backing layer. The method may include the steps of cleaning and masking the body 12 prior to printing. |
