Meanwhile, non-polarized light emitted from a light source (14) for presenting a visual acuity test chart is corrected to make parallel light through a collimator lens (30) and the parallel light is then incident on a liquid crystal shutter (32) for presenting the visual acuity test chart. Liquid crystal shutters (22) and (32) form patterns that are directly opposite to each other. Visual acuity test chart light and background light projected from the liquid crystal shutters (22) and (23) are synthesized with their polarized states included through a half prism (24) as a synthesizing means. Synthesized light of the non-polarized light is then projected to an examinee's eye through a magnifying optical system (26). In this way, since the non-polarized synthesized light is projected to an examinee's eye, a highly reliable inspection can be carried out without the influence of polarized light.</p>
