The voltage of an operation voltage can be increased while avoiding the necessity of increasing the diameter of the polymer bushing insulator. A polymer bushing insulator (1) comprises a conductor pullout rod (2) disposed on its center and having a conductor insertion hole (2a) at its lower end, a hard insulator (3) provided on the outer periphery of the conductor pullout rod (2) and having a receiving port (31a) for a cable terminal (7) at its lower end, and a polymer cover (4) provided on the outer periphery of the insulator (3) and comprising a number of pleat parts (4a) while providing spaces among them in the longitudinal direction. A large-diameter part (33) is provided at a part around the lower end of the insulator (3) and above the conductor insertion hole (2a). A cylindrical shielding metal fitment (6) is buried concentrically with the conductor pullout rod (2) in the large-diameter part (33). Further, an electric field relaxation layer (5) is provided at the interface of the large-diameter part (33) and the polymer cover (4).
