An image reading device and a method thereof for reducing the initial latency time of the image reading device are provided to reduce warm-up time and reduce the generated overshooting by overdriving a fluorescent lamp and a time for reaching the initial intensity which is necessary to scan the image. An optical source part(110) is equipped with a plurality of fluorescent lamps. A convertor part(120) controls the light quantity of the fluorescent lamp by providing power to a plurality of fluorescent lamps. A controller(130) controls a convertor part by overdriving one of the fluorescent lamps for threshold time in case that the warm up is begun.
