The invention relates to a sealing gasket for sealing a flange connection. The sealing gasket comprises a core ring of expanded graphite, coated with a coating tape of porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and a centering ring for centering the sealing gasket with respect to the flanges in the flange connection. The coating tape is spirally wound around the surface of the core ring. The centering ring is a corrugated cardboard ring mounted on flange fasteners. The centering ring is tightly fit over the sealing gasket. The density of the cardboard of the centering ring is less than that of the sealing gasket. The centering ring may have a tab protruding in a radial direction beyond the flanges in the flange connection.
