<p>A method for use with a first network device (30, 32) coupled to a first network (14), the first network (14) coupled to a second network (22), the first network device (30, 32) comprising a source address of the first network device (30, 32) on the second network (14), the method comprising:
receiving a query message from the first network device (30, 32), the query message comprising the source address of the first network device (30, 32) and a query;
parsing the query message to extract the source address and the query from the query message;
processing the query by searching a directory table (54) on a third network to identify a second network device (12) coupled to the first network (14), the second network device (12) comprising information identifying the second network device (12) on the second network (14), wherein the first network device (30, 32) and second network device (12) are located inside a private network defined by a firewall, and the directory table (54) is located outside the private network defined by the firewall;
formulating a reply message that includes the identifying information; and
sending the reply message to the first network device.</p> |
