An automatic open-close device of a prism and a control method thereof are provided to protect the lens of a prism and prevent measurement error. An automatic open-close device of a prism comprises a laser light receiver(20) collecting the laser signal transmitted from a light measuring instrument(L), a signal analyzer(30) analyzing the signal collected in the laser light receiver, a controller(40) controlling the signal analyzed by the signal analyzer, a driving part(50) driven with the command of the controller, a door(54) opened and closed by the driving part, a power supply unit(60) supplying the power to the controller and the driving part, and a lens(71) which reflects the laser signal transmitted from the light measuring instrument to the light measuring instrument.
