Salts of N-(5-nitro-2-furfurylidine)-1-aminohydantoin are prepared by preparing a solution of the corresponding salt from N-(5-nitro-2-furfurylidine)-1-aminohydantoin, ethylene chlorohydrin and an aqueous solution of alkali metal hydroxide, an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, ammonia or an organic base, and precipitating the salt from the solution by means of a solvent which is miscible with the solution. Suitable bases are, for example, ethylene, diamine, diethonolamine or triethonolamine and the solvent used as the precipitating agent may be acetone or an alcohol, e.g. propyl alcohol. |
