A wet electrostatic precipitator is provided to allow the washing water to automatically wash dust, oil mist or fine dust stuck to the dust collecting plates by flowing down washing water along dust collecting plates, and an air purification apparatus using the wet electrostatic precipitator is provided. A wet electrostatic precipitator comprises: a straight cylindrical body frame(1); cylindrical dust collecting plates(11) which are installed within the body frame such that the dust collecting plates are spaced from one another in a fixed gap, and which have a diameter smaller than that of the body frame; and a plurality of discharge electrodes(8) installed in a central axis direction of the body frame. Lower ends of openings between the body frame and the dust collecting plates are closed to fill washing water in the openings. The discharge electrodes are attached to a shaft(7). The shaft is attached to an inner part of the wet electrostatic precipitator through upper and lower covers(5,5'). The shaft is electrically isolated from the upper and lower covers through insulating supports(6,6'). The upper and lower covers support the discharge electrode-installed shaft from central portions of the covers while passing polluted air through the covers. |
