<p>Provided are a variable resistance element having a constitution, in which the area of an electrically contributable region of a variable resistor is smaller than the area defined by an upper electrode or a lower electrode, and a method for manufacturing the variable resistance element. Over a lower electrode (1) arranged on a lower bed substrate (5), there is formed a protruding electrode member (2). This protruding electrode member (2) contacts, on a face different from the contact face of the lower electrode (1), with a variable resistor (3), which contacts, on a face different from the face contacting with the protruding electrode member (2), with an upper electrode (4). As a result, the cross point portion between the protruding electrode member (2) (or the variable resistor (3)) and the upper electrode (4) becomes the electrically contributable region of the variable resistor so that its area is more reduced than that of the region in the variable resistance element of the prior art. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009</p> |
