The depollution element (4) has a depollution unit (8) depolluting gases disposed inside a casing (7), and three parts (9, 10, 11) provided in directions of flow of gases in the element. The parts (9, 11) comprise maintaining units (12, 12') respectively interposed between the depollution unit and the casing and designed for providing only maintenance of the depollution unit in the casing. The part (10) has a heat insulation unit (13) interposed between the depollution unit and the casing and designed for providing thermal insulation of the element. The maintaining units are made of a resistant material resistant to physical constraints exerted by the exhaust gases, composite material containing a metallic type material e.g. ferrous, ceramic type material and fibrous type material e.g. intumescent type fibrous material, containing refractory ceramic fiber or biosoluble type fiber material, and a non- intumescent type fibrous material containing glass fiber, silica fiber or poly-crystalline fiber and long ceramic fiber material. The heat insulation unit is made of micro-porous material or composite material containing fibers.
