Disclosed is a method for the positionally accurate triggering of an optionally activated machine part (12) which is displaced relative to a workpiece (22) along at least one axis of movement (18). According to said method, local pulses (32) are generated with the aid of an incremental encoder (28), the number of local pulses (32) of a series (30) of local pulses being representative of the adjusted position of the machine part (12). The triggering signal (54) for the machine part (12) is generated when the actual number of local pulses matches a defined number of pulses. Preferably, the current number of local pulses and the defined number of pulses are compared independently of a higher-level drive control circuit (38, 46). Most preferably, the current number of local pulses and the defined number of pulses are compared in a comparator which is arranged on an interface card (48) of an arithmetic unit (36), the drive control circuit with a controller being embodied in the form of a controller program (46) that is cyclically processed by the processor (38) of the arithmetic unit (36). ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
