The ventilator has a gas circuit i.e. ventilation circuit (1), comprising an inspiratory branch (11) for administering anesthetic gas to a patient and an expiratory branch (12) for recuperating the gas expirated by the patient. A gas source (3) e.g. fan, delivers the gas or gaseous mixture into the branch (11). Bypass cardiopulmonary (BCP) circuit (2) includes a supply branch (21) for supplying gas to a BCP membrane system (30) and a gas recuperating branch (22) for recuperating part of non-consumed gas in the system. The gas source delivers gas or gaseous mixture into the supply branch.
