A method for separating and refining monosialoganglioside GM1 is provided to use simple steps, to increase cost efficiency, to be applied to an industrial scale and to obtain the pure monosialoganglioside GM1 for medicinal use through an ion-exchange column chromatography using an eluant including potassium or cesium ion. A method for separating and refining monosialoganglioside GM1 includes steps of: (a) separating the GM1 through an ion-exchange column chromatography using an eluant including potassium or the cesium ion from a lipid mixture comprising the monosialoganglioside GM1 as a major ganglioside component; (b) collecting a solute in an eluted solution; (c) filtrating the aqueous solution of the solute collected in the step (b); (d) filtrating the aqueous solution obtained by adding a sodium salt; and (e) collecting GM1 in a form of the sodium salt. |
