A duplex system using access switching processors and a method thereof are provided to offer a service to subscribers without disconnection through the other access switching processor although one access switching processor has a defect. A duplex system comprises the first access switching processor(10), the second access switching processor(20) and a bus(30). The first access switching processor in which the first operating processor(11) and the first preliminary processor(12) are connected by a control channel and a data channel. The memories of the first preprocessor and the first operating processor are synchronized through the data channel. If the first operating processor cannot be operated by a defect, the first preliminary processor operates on behalf of the first operating processor by transmitting a control message to the first preliminary processor through the control channel.
