A refrigeration device (10) having a refrigerant circuit (11) in which a compressor (20), a heat radiator (14), an expander (30), and a cooler (15) are sequentially interconnected. The rotating shaft (22) of an electric motor is connected to a compression mechanism (21) of the compressor (20), and the rotating shaft (32) of a generator (33) is connected to an expansion mechanism (31) of the expander (30). The device has electricity input mechanisms (41, 43) for causing the generator (33) to function as an electric motor. As a result, the startup of a system is assured by reliably operating the expander (30) when the device is activated, so that startup performance at the time of the start of the device can be reliably controlled. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
