Disclosed is a method for producing an epoxy compound represented by the formula (3) below, which is characterized in that a dihydroxy compound represented by the formula (1) below is reacted with a compound represented by the formula (2) below in the presence of at least one substance selected from the group consisting of amine compounds and ammonium salts, and the thus-obtained reaction mixture is mixed with an inorganic base for further reaction. HO-Q1-Ar1-Ar2-Ar3-Q1 -OH (1) (In the formula (1), Q1 represents a single bond or the like, and Ar1, Ar2 and Ar3 respectively represent one of the divalent groups represented by the following formulae.
