With a simple configuration, data can be quickly and reliably recorded on an optical disk even when a recording error occurs. The data that have been normally recorded on the optical disk are erased from a storage means. When a recording error occurs, a predetermined area after the address at which the recording error has occurred is selected as a skip area. Avoiding the skip area, the data stored in the storage means are then recorded from a recording restart address of the optical disk. Another recording error can thereby be prevented from occurring in the vicinity of the place where the error has occurred and another error might occur with a high possibility. In addition, data need not be resent upon restarting the recording, so that the loss time caused by resending the data can be eliminated. The storage area in a host unit, which is necessary for storing the data to be resent, can also be reduced. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
