<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a light source in a stable state by bringing the deterioration of each light source into the most uniform state when a plurality of laser beams are used for the exposure of light without making image quality deteriorated. <P>SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus, a plurality of laser beams from a plurality of light sources are scanned in the main scanning direction of an image carrying body to perform in parallel the exposure of light for a plurality of lines. The image forming apparatus is equipped with a plurality of the light sources driven for emitting light according to image data, and a control part for controlling when a plurality of the light sources are driven for emitting the light according to the image data. The control part can control image formation by two kings of image forming modes that are a first image forming mode performing image formation by a first image forming speed using all the light sources, and a second image forming mode performing image formation by a second image forming speed lower than a first image forming speed without using any of the light sources, and the light source which is not used in the second image forming mode is made to emit light outside an imaging region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
