<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inflator and an airbag provided with the inflator which can more certainly discharge high pressure gas to the outside when fire breaks out. <P>SOLUTION: A first sealing body 31 prevents the outflow of the high pressure gas in a chamber 16. An initiator housing 40 stores an initiator 45. The initiator housing 40 is attached to one end of a storage body 12 through the first sealing body 31. A ventilation passage 4 is formed in the initiator housing 40, and the high pressure gas in the chamber 16 is discharged to the outside from the ventilation passage 4. A thermoplastic resin 2 preventing the outflow of the high pressure gas to the outside is inserted into the ventilation passage 4.
