A process for making isocyanate polymers comprises reacting an isocyanate in the presence of diazabicyclooctane and at least one alkylene oxide having 2 to 4 carbon atoms. Example III describes the polymerization of phenyl isocyanate and tolylene diisocyanate in the presence of diazabicyclooctane and ethylene, propylene or butylene oxides.ALSO:A process for making isocyanate or urethane polymers comprises reacting an isocyanate alone or together with polyol in the presence of diazabicyclooctane and at least one alkylene oxide having 2 to 4 carbon atoms. Polyurethane foams may be made by effecting the polymerization in the-presence of water. In the Examples: (II) toluene diisocyanate; (IV) diisocyanatophenyl methane and phenyl isocyanate; (V) toluylene diisocyanate and (a) heptadecanol, (b) tetrakis - 2 - hydroxypropyl ethylene diamine and (c) polypropylene glycol, and (VI), (VII) and (VIII) a resinous polyol and toluylene diisocyanate are polymerized in the presence of propylene or butylene oxide and diazabicyclooctane. Additional additives present in the reaction mixtures being: (VI) stannous octoate, water and a silicone, and (VIII) water and a silicone. |
