A solar radiation collector (10) comprising a concentrator (12) and a photovoltaic cell (14), the concentrator (12) comprising at least a prismatic. primary portion (16), the primary portion (16) comprising primary entrance aperture (20) having a perimeter, an outer surface adapted for receiving radiation, and a inner surface; a primary receiver plane (24); sidewalls (26), meeting the primary entrance aperture (20) along at least a portion of the perimeter; and a reflective bottom surface (22). The primary portion (16) is adapted to utilize total internal reflection at least from the inner surface of the primary entrance aperture (20) to concentrate radiation entering through the primary entrance aperture (20) toward the primary receiver plane (24). The primary entrance aperture (20) comprises a reference area defined as the area thereof between two lines (36a, 36b), each of the lines being the intersection between the primary entrance aperture (20) and an imaginary plane (37a, 37b) which is perpendicular to both the primary entrance aperture (20) and an extreme end (24a, 24b) of the primary receiver plane (24); the total area of the primary entrance aperture (20) exceeding that of the reference area. |
