METHOD FOR PRODUCING CATIONIZED SILICA DISPERSION AND RECORDING MEDIUM USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which enables the production of a cationized silica dispersion made proof and stabilized against foaming and agglomeration in a silica dispersion step and to provide a recording medium using the same in regard to a vapor-phase-process silica dispersion utilizable as a material for a high-gross high-density inkjet recording medium.

SOLUTION: The method for producing the cationic silica dispersion comprises feeding vapor-phase-process silica into a dispersion medium in a vacuum and dispersing it in the medium in a way that a primary dispersion containing below half of the predetermined amount of the silica is first prepared, and a cationic resin and the remaining portion of the silica are then successively fed into the primary dispersion. Desirably, 10-40% of the total feed amount of the vapor-phase-process silica is fed before the addition of the cationic resin.
