PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image quality from being deteriorated, by shortening a recovery time when recovering from a power saving mode and performing reading. SOLUTION: An image reader is shifted into a power saving mode when there is no operation instruction depending on operation from a user for a prescribed time. When there is a recovery request from the power saving mode and recovering from the power saving mode to perform reading, image reading is performed using a last value without implementing automatic gain adjustment, and a gain adjustment value is corrected during scanning.
