PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plug connection switching device and a plug connection switching method for discriminating 4-pole plugs having different arrangement of output signals and automatically connecting electric connection according to the arrangement of the output signals. SOLUTION: According to the plug connection switching device and the plug connection switching method, synchronization signal separation processing is applied to an output signal from a first ring terminal R1 of a plug 10 inserted into a jack 20 to discriminate whether an obtained synchronization signal component is a synchronization signal, and an electric connection between the first ring terminal R1 and a sleeve terminal S1 and a right audio signal output end Rout, a video signal output end Vout and a terminal resistor Re is switched.
